2018 A.W.E Field Trip

Every year California University of Pennsylvania hosts an art and writing exploration day on their campus for high school and middle school levels to attend. There is always a wide variety of students who attend including Laurel Highlands, Albert Gallatin , Brownsville, Frazier, Connellsville, and others that are not in our county also attend.

Mr. Durso and a group of students were able to dabble in classes such as ceramics, photography, drawing, comic book writing, creative writing and many more. Real professors taught the short classes and shared their own experiences and stories. Those attending enjoyed pasta, hamburgers, salad, and many cookies to keep them from going hungry and to fuel creative thoughts.

Senior, Nicole Bevard, shared some input on going this year. “I’ve been attending the AWE field trips to Cal U since I was in middle school. I always enjoy being able to works on skills with college professors and learning new ones as well. I did the photography and creative writing classes and learned the difference between types of photos and how to take the perfect portrait of a person to be able to capture their personality in it.”

Senior, Emilee Friend said “that she enjoyed the day off from school and being able to learn about what all goes into comic book writing and the process behind it.”
