2018 Golden Globes

The 75th Annual Golden Globes aired on Sunday, January 7th, 2018. It was the first major awards ceremony to be held since the sexual harassment accusations against Harvey Weinstein were revealed. The women wore black as an anti-harassment initiative and they all made powerful statements about the power of women.

The most memorable moment of the night was Oprah Winfrey’s Cecil B. DeMille lifetime achievement award acceptance speech. Her speech perfectly blended together the personal and political. She wove together stories about her childhood, from watching Sidney Poitier win an Oscar in 1964 with her mother to tracing her own career rise and giving praise to journalists for exposing stories of corruption and abuse.

Following the fantastic show put on by last year’s host, Jimmy Fallon, was indeed difficult, but Seth Meyers did his best. Even though he did’t have a cold open, he still did a good job. Overall, the 75th Annual Golden Globes were a success, with Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri winning best picture.
