The annual fall Buckwheat Supper located in Ohiopyle is almost upon us! Thousands of people come and enjoy a mouthwatering supply of either fluffy regular pancakes or the very famous buckwheat cakes. In addition to the pancakes you also will enjoy a side of our local favorite scallop potatoes. The dates of this event are October 12th, 13th (10 a.m. – 8 p.m.) and 14th ( 10 a.m. -2 p.m.) The cost is $8.50 for adults and $4.50 for kids.
The buckwheat supper became a fundraiser for the Ohiopyle- Stewart Volunteer Fire Department in 1947. It then became a twice a year annual event. Even though both the fall and spring supper still bring the same great deliciousness, the changing of the leaves and the beautiful weather lore more people into the town causing the fall supper to be quite a sensation. The more people that buy tickets for their meals, the better the results are for the needed money for the fire department.
I have been working as a volunteer at both of the annual events for four years. I work as a server and I really enjoy talking to a lot of the folks – regulars and new faces. My favorite part is seeing the smiles when they take their first bite. Hearing the complements on how tasty their meal was, makes my day. So please, if you read this article or are in Ohiopyle during this event, stop in and see what amazing tastes will satisfy your taste buds. You won’t be disappointed. Also be sure to ask for me, I will be happy to serve you!
