After being diagnosed with Glioblastoma in 2017, Senator John Sidney McCain III passed away on August 25, 2018 at 4:28 p.m. at his home in Arizona, surrounded by his wife Cindy McCain and the rest of his loving family. Born on August 29, 1936 Senator McCain lived a long and successful life serving his country with his tremendous military service and his incredibly influential political career. Following in his fathers and grandfathers footsteps serving as a Naval Aviator in the United States Navy, Senator McCain then pursued a career as an Arizona, Republican United States Senator and Congressman. During his political career, he was a two time presidential contender, but both times unfortunately having to face defeat.
During his military career he served in the United States Navy for 23 years from 1958-1981 and reached the rank of captain. In this time he was fighting in the Vietnam War, where for five and a half years he was taken as a prisoner of war and lived in grave conditions, with little food and care. While flying over Hanoi in North Vietnam, a huge missile shot him out of the sky, where he crash landed in a lake, suffering from both of his arms being broke as well as his left leg. For many days he was tortured and denied medical care, until the North Vietnamese soldiers realized that his father was an Admiral in the United States Navy and that McCain would die, if he was not allowed medical care. Finally, when the war was coming to an end, in March 1972 , McCain was now back in American hands after a long hard fought battle both physically and mentally.
Senator McCain’s political career was very successful and influential over the sixty year span he had served America and it’s people. After being defeated in the 2000 primary election by the future President George W. Bush. He then again ran in 2008 and was the Republican primary contender but was defeated by future President Barack Obama. Even though he faced defeat in both of these elections, he still did his best to appeal to both Democrats and Republicans as an Arizona Senator and worked hard for what he thought was best for the American people. Throughout his whole life, Senator John Sidney McCain III was a determined and hard-working American political figure whose life revolved around doing what he thought was best for America and it’s people. Senator McCain passed away just shy of his 82nd birthday.
