On Thursday April 4th 2019, the Uniontown vs. Elizabeth Forward varsity baseball game was a blockbuster at Elizabeth Forward. Uniontown was looking for their first section win against a 0-1 (in section games) Warriors team. After a scoreless top of the 1st for Uniontown, Wyatt Lepley (in image above) throws the first pitch to start the bottom of the 1st. Lepley, and the defense held up in the first to keep it scoreless.
Things started to heat up in the bottom of the 2nd, and the top of the third. EF’s J. Prah hits a sacrifice fly ball to center fielder Owen Martin to score N. Cole. To lead into the third with a 1-0 lead. In the top of the third Jake Shiley leads off with a single to center field. He steals second and gets to third on a wild pitch. Martin hits a double to score Shiley. UT scores 1 more to take the lead into the bottom of the 3rd. At the end of the 3rd, Elizabeth Forward scored 2 runs to take back the lead with the score being 3-2 going to the 4th.
In the top of the 4th, Martin connects again for a double to score Shiley to tie the game at 3 a piece. UT stays strong, and keeps the Warriors to no runs in the bottom of the 4th. In the 5th, it gets hot for UT. Jeff King kept the hits going by hitting a double to score Lepley, Zahron, and Harim, to take back the lead, and it was 6-3 going into the bottom of the 5th. Although UT was starting to find their groove, errors were building up as well. After a long and eventful inning, EF scored 3 runs to come back and tie the game. UT scraps for 1 run in the 6th to lead 7-6. In the bottom of the 6th routine plays couldn’t be made by the defense. EF scored 2 on a walk and an error on the shortstop. EF had the lead and was determined to win. 2 up, 2 down immediately, and Uniontowns’ Owen Martin reached first on a ground ball, but the next hitter grounded out to end the the back and fourth all out brawl.
