Have you heard of the the book “Becoming”? If not, maybe you’ve heard of the author, Michelle Obama (former first lady of the White House). The book is a memoir written by Michelle explaining how she’s gotten to where she is, mistakes she’s made, internal and external struggles. “Becoming” has been very successful with selling 1.4 million copies in the first week, then after about two weeks it became the best selling book in the US for 2018, and finally by March 2019 there were 10 million copies sold. This book has been very popular with women, all ranging in age, especially. I believe the book has been so successful because it shows a raw insight into her life, and she doesn’t hold anything back in it.
I like this book because it is easy to relate to for growing young women. It shows how you can be or do anything and everything. This book is about her (Michelle), but at the same time she makes it about everyone else as well. One of my favorite quotes from this book is, “As if at some point you become something and that’s the end.” She uses this quote to explain how you don’t have to be just one thing, you can be many.
All in all, this memoir is more than just her, this is everyone who ever wants to be anything. She pours out the raw emotions so that we can relate to her. She makes it known that class doesn’t matter. She shows how much we can accomplish with the right morals and goals. This book inspires us to go out and do whatever it is we want to.
