Senior, Cole Waligura, took his senior project to a whole new level. He decided to go to Guatemala on a mission trip with his girlfriend, Hannah, to aid children and lend a helping hand to the needs of the nuns and children at an orphanage/daycare. His ultimate goal was to interact with the kids and just show them love that they don’t get often due to their parents not being involved. They were gone 13 days – 13 days full of making children smile.
They arrived late on January 2nd, around 9:30 at night and they were showed to their rooms. The next morning they woke up early ready to lend a helping hand. “Everyday we did what the nuns told us to do. If that meant painting doors, we did that. If that meant doing the dishes or keeping the kids occupied, we did that too.” stated Waligura. Cole and Hannah packed a bunch of souvenirs with them to give to the children such as little airplanes, parachute guys, and snacks as well as Cole’s own hats and shoes. Cole helped them get ready for their school year by organizing books and packing all of their book bags. They were sad to leave when January 14th came around but they knew that they had made a difference in those children’s everyday lives.
What better way to accomplish you senior project than to give your time to those who need it most. Congratulations Cole Waligura on a successful trip and thank you for taking part in making this world a better place!
