Getting Ready For The Season

The boy’s Basketball season is coming up and as conditioning starts and the anticipation grows greater, the boys will look to keep up their winning ways this season and get a little bit of their pride back as they missed a playoff berth by just one game last year finishing with a final overall of (7-9). ” Spots will be tough to earn this year” said Giovanni Marian, as there was said to be 40 boys that showed up to try out.  with only 20 spots total (10 on JV 10 on Varsity) it will be down to the wire as the boys try to prove their worth to Coach Kezmarsky and secure a spot on the Varsity roster.  There will also be a freshman boys team with 10-15 spots available giving the freshman boys a little security net to fall back on if they’re not up to Junior varsity/Varsity skill level yet.

“The teams looking good this year, I think we have a chance to go undefeated.” said Kam Fitzgerald in response to the question how he thought the team will do this year.  The boys are in a new section this year which means all new opponents, could this be the motivation the team needs to give them the extra boost to success? We’ll have to wait and see, the boys look to improve on finishing their games out as they had multiple games where they lost only by one point last year.  When asking how conditioning is going, Connor DeMoss responded “It’s going well, the boys are looking good and it’s looking promising for the upcoming season.”

The Boy’s first game will be on December 5th as they will play Albert Gallatin in the Tip-off Tournament hosted by Penn State Fayette.  This will be an important game for the boys, not just because it’s their first game of the year, but because they suffered two losses from the team last season, both games losing by just a single point.  So there will probably be a bit of tension for the returning players as they try to get back at their heated rivals.  Speaking of rivals, the boys will play Laurel Highlands on January 13th at Laurel Highlands High School so mark your calendars and make sure you can come out and support your Red Raiders for what is always a great game to watch.
