Running is an activity that people of all ages choose to partake in, and for many, it turns into more of a lifestyle than simply a hobby. Julie Friend, a junior at California University, started her running career as early as eighth grade when she joined her middle school track and field team. Ever since then, she has grown as an athlete and become a dedicated participant to the sports of both cross country and track and field while in high school, in addition to college.
Julie’s main inspiration stems from her high school cross country coach, Joe Everhart, a man who she claims kept her motivated to keep running and has had an extraordinary impact on her life. While in high school, she qualified for states three years in a row and broke the county record, as well as multiple school records. Her dedication to running is one of the remarkable things about her and has always played a large role in her life.
Julie has chosen a major in biology pre-med that will hopefully lead her into a physical therapy career. while in college, she has helped her team qualify for nationals, and she has individually been named an all-American. she stated, one of her greatest accomplishments was when she ran a 4.55 minute mile. Julie’s future plans include eventually becoming a cross country or track and field coach so she can influence others with the power of running like she has been so significantly influenced.
