Kiss FM radio station DJ’s Mikey and Big Bob visited Uniontown High School for a special acknowledgment to freshman Josh Radovich. Josh who raised funds to provide smoke detectors to the elementary schools in our district. The award Josh received is selected from thousands of students in a five county area. Josh started this project in order to honor his friend and firefighting mentor, Bill Miller. Bill worked to donate smoke detectors and replacement batteries to Uniontown elementary students and has since passed away.
Josh was nominated by his Neighbor Lisa Harvilla, who had felt the loss of Bill Millers death as well and who was approached by Josh, because he wanted to continue what Bill had started in his memory. He saw that the safety of the area students was important and he believed in the cause that Bill Miller had began. While Josh will be working to keep Bill millers memory alive, he will also be working to keep the members of his community safe through the donation of smoke detectors to homes and schools in the area.
Josh plans to continue this project and move from school to school in the area to provide smoke detectors to the homes. He would like to go to Wharton and Marclay next, then just continue by providing them to all the kindergarten families as well as replacement batteries as the time goes on. Josh was unaware though, that his neighbor had nominated him for this award, but grateful for the support to his cause. His belief in safety and his care for his community is both commendable and something we could all take a lesson from.
