As you may already know, this year’s musical is Fiddler on the Roof. The cast and crew have worked hard for the past few months to make this show great. Come out on April 5, 6, and 7th to support our school, our drama club, or even just to have a fun night out. But before you go to see it, lets help you get an idea of what the lead character are like!
Tevye is a poor milkman who is trying to make ends meet for his wife, Golde, and his five daughters. He strongly believes in tradition and having a strong devotion to God- neither of which should be changed. He only wants the best for his family and while he sometimes acts like a tough guy, he puts being a good father to his children first.
Golde is Tevye’s wife of many years. She also believes in tradition, maybe even stronger than Tevye. All she wants is for her daughters to marry rich so that they may lead a full life, anything but what they are living now. She sometimes shows this in a very unconventional way.
The daughters are very willing to break tradition due to their desire to marry who they want. The tradition is that Yente the Matchmaker is to pick their husbands and the father will approve and that’s who they marry – no discussion. The daughters challenge this tradition while Tevye struggles to stay true to his beliefs.
