The Pittsburgh Penguins have become hot at just the right time of the year. They were really struggling in the early part of the season, but after they fired Dan Byslma and hired Mike Sullivan, the players are just giving this new coach all they have. He has gotten his players all to give him there very best and to play very well as a team. Another nice surprise was when young goal keeper, Matt Murray came into replace Marc-Andre Fleury and has been able to dominate. The Pens As a whole have just been unstoppable lately.
The Pens went into the playoffs as one of the hottest teams in the NHL. They were catching fire right before the Stanely Cup Playoffs. But just like that, they lost a lot of stars, including, Marc-Andre Fleury, Chris Letang, Olli Maata, and Evgeni Malkin. Matt Murray was able to hold down the fort, but just before the playoffs, was diagnosed with a concussion. So going into the Rangers series, the Pens were missing a lot of not just players, and moe importantly playoff experience. We were going into the series supposed to beat the Rangers, but there was some doubt in the minds of Pens fans since they were down so many players. But man did the Pens shock the Rangers and fans.
The Pens third string goalie Jeff Zatkoff got a game one win, and lost the next, but that was enough time for Matt Murray to recover and they also got back Evgeni Malkin, Chris Letang, and Olli Maata. So now the Pen’s reinforcements arrived and they didn’t lose another game. Matt Murray came in and just shut down the Rangers offense along with the Pens Power Play killing team. They also got offense from some different faces such as Carl Hagelin, Connor Sheary, and Matt Cullen. To make matters worse for the Rangers, Evgeni Malkin came back and was a goal scoring machine, scoring two goals alone in his first game back. Now the Pen’s are playing there second round series against the Capitals. But now their injury list is a whole lot smaller coming into this series than last. Lets Go Pens!
