Swimming WPIAL’s

UHS swimmers had a great season this year.  A few swim team members qualified for WPIAL’s including girls Molly Rabon, Valerie Grimes, Rylee Levander, Alexandra Meadows, Elizabeth Klingensmith, and Rachel Vannosdeln qualifying in swimming events and Maeve Carei qualified for diving. There were also six boys who had qualified; Jonathan Sharp, Riley Gilleland, Evan Klatt, Chase Bowen, and Bailey Kalivoda all qualified in swimming events and Jonathan Desvarro qualified in diving.

The WPIAL Championships were on March 3rd and 4th. On Thursday March 3rd, the events that Uniontown were included in consisted of the 200 medley relay (boys and girls) and the 200 free relay (boys and girls). Also on the 3rd Jonathan Sharp swam the 5o free and the 100 free, placing second in the 50 and fourth in the 100, which qualified him for states in both events. Along with Jonathan, Elizabeth Klingensmith swam the 100 butterfly, placing second and also qualifying for states. Elizabeth qualified in the fly with a time of 58.64. Jonathan finished the 50 with a 21.49, and the 100 with a 47.78.

Rylee, Molly, Alexandra, and Rachel swam the 200 medley. Jonathan S., Chase, Riley, and Evan also swam the medley. In the 200 free relay it was Alexandra, Elizabeth, Rachel, and Valerie. For the boys Riley G., Jonathan S., Chase, and Bailey. Elizabeth also swam the 500 free along with Rachel. And finally the 400 free relay consisted of Valerie, Rachel, Elizabeth, and Alexandra. For the boys Riley G., Evan, Jonathan S., and Chase. Great job to everyone at WPIAL’s and good luck to Jonathan and Elizabeth as they go to states.
