The founder of the challenge programs name was Dan Perkins. When Dan Perkins was only 10 years old, he received a ten cent per week allowance. He wanted more and was told he would need to earn it. Perkins had a friend who shined shoes so together they made a shoe shine box for Perkins. He shined shoes in the downtown area of his hometown, Johnstown, Pennsylvania. he noticed the name of the business – Minute Car Wash. It took Perkins three minutes to shine one pair of shoes. Perkins had a solution. Ever resourceful, he employed his friend and together they shined one pair of shoes.
What does the Challenge Program do? The mission is to build sustainable Business/Education partnerships while motivating students to develop the good habits required to succeed in school and in their future careers. It carries out its mission through in-school assemblies and ceremonies, workforce development activities, and continuous communication between businesses, educators, students. The challenge program is for grades 10th,11th and 12th on October 18th @ 9:30.
