The Uniontown Red Raiders defeated the Laurel Highlands Mustangs in a hard fought win last Friday, February 8, 2013. The Raiders and the mustangs both finished 10-2 in the section, and are co-section champions. But the Red Raiders pulled out the victory on Friday night in the Section 3-AAA at AJ Everhart Memorial Gymnasium. This is Uniontown’s 46 section title and Coach Kezmarsky’s 7 title in the last eleven years coaching.
In the first quarter of the game the lead changed three times back and forth between laurel highlands and Uniontown, but resulted in a tie of 13-13. In the second quarter the Raiders out scored the mustangs 17-8 and had the lead of 30-21 at halftime. In the third quarter, both the Red Raiders and the Mustangs scored a total of 18 points leaving the score to be 48-39 led by the Raiders at the end of the third quarter. In the fourth quarter of the game the Red Raiders scored 19 points while the Mustangs scored 14. The final score of the Uniontown vs. Laurel highlands game was 67-53, with the Raider victory.
The Uniontown Red Raiders and the Laurel Highlands Mustangs will find out who they play in the first round of the WPIAL AAA play-offs after a play-off meeting on Tuesday, February 12.
