Our Uniontown Baseball team is off to a decent start this season. The team is coached by Ken Musko who is entering his fourth season as head coach. He’s backed by five seniors Mark Fike, Christian Forsythe, Eric Indrovo, Colby Simmons and Carter Waligura. They have begun the season with a record of 1-4 and a section record of 0-2. They are entering a big week in section play as they compete in four games in four days. They are coming off a 2-1 loss against Elizabeth Forward last Wednesday on a very windy afternoon. Uniontown’s pitcher Mark Fike pitched an excellent game recording numerous strikeouts throughout the game although he didn’t get the run support he deserved and was handed the lose.
Here are the Section Standings as of now:
- Laurel Highlands: 3-0
- Belle Vernon: 2-0
- South Park: 1-1
- West Mifflin: 1-1
- Ringgold: 1-2
- Elizabeth Forward: 1-1
- Thomas Jefferson: 0-2
- Uniontown: 0-2
This is after two weeks of play but in this section it is anyone’s game. As you can see the three/four spots are wide open and will be close until the last game. At this point in the season Uniontown has only played Elizabeth Forward and Belle Vernon. That still leaves a two game series between cross-town rival Laurel Highlands who look to clinch a second straight playoff spot. The season wraps up on May 4 so that still leaves about three weeks to go to make up ground and fight for a spot in the playoffs. This is a proving point and last opportunity for all those seniors above to prove something. So if you haven’t come out to watch a game and root on the raiders you have to come out and watch the cards unfold.
