Track season is finally underway after it was necessary to cancel the scrimmage meets due to inclimate weather. Both the boys and girls track teams won their first two meets against Mt. Pleasant and Yough. The team was confident going up against Connellsville but knew they were going to be a hard team to beat after their recent win against Laurel Highlands. The boys lost to Connellsville with a score of 46 to 104 and the girls came in with a closer score of 64 to their 85. The coaches had told the team to focus on two important letters P.R. Most of the team were able to beat their old personal records. The team did have 20 boys that placed in either 1st, 2nd, or 3rd which is varsity points. For the girls they had 20 girls in either 1st, 2nd or 3rd place.
The Latrobe Invitational was held on Friday, April 13th for the top two competitors in each event. The following athletes placed in the top 6, earning medals: Abigail Marinucci in the triple jump, Maeve Carei in the pole vault, Dave Eitner in the javelin, Isaiah Melvin in the 300 hurdles, and Jayden Thomas in the high jump.
Their next and final home meet is Wednesday, April 18th against Belle Vernon. The seniors will also be honored before the meet so come out and support your track team.
