Uniontown’s Win in Hometown High Q

Hometown High Q is a long-running quiz bowl for high schools in the local area of Pittsburgh. High schools compete to win money for their school. Although the 2020-2021 season looked a little bit different, Uniontown was able to represent with the virtual team of Brody Smith, Grant Barcheck, and Malcom Patton. Faculty sponsor and advisor is Mrs. Grimm.

Uniontown competed against Central Valley High School and Carmichaels High school. In the final round Central Valley ended with a total of 210 points, Carmichaels with 330 points, and Uniontown swept the competition with 515 points. 515 points is a perfect score, and Uniontown was only the third school to earn that score this season. In an interview with us, Brody Smith, Captain of Academic League said, “Getting to see Malcom and Grant for the first time since quarantine was great and the less competitive nature of the competition really maximized our abilities by letting us confer.” All teammates can agree this win means a lot especially since no questions were missed. Grant Barcheck said in reference to the win, “I just hope that when we go back to face other teams … for the championship that we can continue on and possibly win. “
