It was a heck of a season for the UT swim team. Everyone worked so hard at practice and gave their all at the meets. It all payed off in the end because girls won the section. Although the boys did not win their section it was still an amazing season for the whole team. The team had fourteen swim meets and then an invitational for a total of 15 meets. Five of those meets were section meets. We competed against Elizabeth Forward (EF) at home, Belle Vernon away, Easy Allegheny away, Steel Valley at home, and Thomas Jefferson away.
These were all pretty good teams but the hardest competition had to be Elizabeth Forward. After the win against EF the team set their mind to winning the section. Meet after meet they kept winning and the excitement grew as they got closer to the section title. Going into the last meet against Thomas Jefferson, they were the only team UHS had to beat to win the section. The team was nervous but ready to take down the opposing team. The first relay was disqualified and then two other people on the other team disqualifying. The team realized they had to be extra careful with our starts and turns. Uniontown was approximately 30 points ahead with only two races left, that is when they knew the section title was theirs.
When the meet had ended everyone was so happy. After cheering for the other team the celebration began. The team took pictures and cheered and Elizabeth even made a sign that said Section Champs on it. It was a great way to end the night. The invitational was the next day, even though EF got first and we got second out of the six schools at the invitational, all that mattered was that the Uniontown girls swimming won the section.
