Where Are They Now: Alec Basile

What do you miss most about high school?

I would have to say I miss competitive sports the most as well as drama club. You can still find competition in college but it’s just never the same and there’s very little time for any dedication to things like theater and sports.

What do you remember about your high school graduation?

I remember the great feeling of moving to the next chapter in life but also realizing that I would most likely never see many of the people in my class again. It’s just a weird feeling going to school with the same people and then never seeing many of them again.

Are you continuing your education or working, or both? Tell us more about where and what you are doing.

I am currently continuing my education at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia. I am currently a Biomedical Sciences major with a minor in Chemistry.

Do you feel that high school prepared you for your work now and what has been some surprising things about work/school?

In many aspects UHS has prepared many very well but in some areas not so much. My AP courses really prepared me for difficult courses as well as a great amount of work and am very thankful for the teachers I was blessed to have. Senior projects (as much of a pain as they are) really gave me some great opportunities that I would have never had without it. I was not prepared very well for things like online classes though which isn’t hard to pick up on but just added to the stress of school from the start.

Are you friends with the same people from high school and have you made new friends?

I am still friends with a few people from high school that I was close with in senior year but other than a select few I haven’t really been in touch with many people. I have met many great friends where I am but it took time. The biggest thing going into college is to be patient. Friends will come and go and you’ll know when you’ve found the right ones. Don’t let fear sway you from leaving behind some things though for there are always greater things ahead of you!
