Where Are They Now? Kelsie Herring

Kelsie Herring was a 2008 graduate from Uniontown High School. She was the Salutatorian of her class. She held a record in the 800 meter individual race for track and field.

Q: “What do you miss most about high school?”
A: “Between band, soccer, swimming, and track, it was great having team sports and after school events with friends.”

Q: “What do you remember about your high school graduation?”
A: “Brandy Risha and I rapped a song about our class to the tune of Fresh Prince of Bel-Air theme song.”

Q: “is college life anything like you expected it to be?”
A: “I had no idea what to expect. I went to the College of Wooster in Ohio. It was a small liberal arts school with great humanities, study abroad, and science programs. In college, there are no longer parental curfews, but between varsity and club sports, student activity groups, and my school work, I sure was busy! If I ad to give advice about college, it would be to give time to explore your personal values and solidify learning HOW to learn. They will set you up for lifelong success. Meet new people and have fun!!”

Q: “What did you go to college for?”
A: “My major was Biochemistry and Molecular biology and my minor was Spanish. After college I worked at UPMC in Pittsburgh as a medical tech in he Hematopathology lab. Then I joined the Navy and went to Medical School at Pennsylvania State University. Now I am in Family Medicine Residency at Naval Hospial Camp Penleton, CA.”

Q: “Do you still talk to any of your high school friends?”
A: “You betcha! Between phone calls, snapchat, and text, we stay in touch even when we are on separate sides of the country.”
