Famous British actor, Alan Rickman, Died today, Thursday the 14th, after a battle with cancer. He was best known by those of this generation for his portrayal of Professor Snape in the Harry Potter movies. J.K. Rowling commented on news of his death, stating ” There are no words to express how shocked and devastated I am to hear of Alan Rickman’s death. He was a magnificent actor and a wonderful man”. Alan died peacefully in his home in London surrounded by friends and family. Alan has been on the big screen since 1988, with his first role as Hans Gruber in “Die Hard. He also played the Sheriff of Nottingham in “Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves” (1991). Alan also played and directed on Broadway with roles in various live performances and an award winning play ” My Name is Rachel Corrie” of which Alan wrote and directed based on a compilation of emails from students killed by a bulldozer during a protest against the actions of the Israel Defense forces in the Gaza Strip. Alan Rickman has left life with an amazing legacy and will be missed dearly by many. Our condolences to the Rickman Household for their loss.
