Cross-State Rivals Face Off

The West Virginia Mountaineers played the Pitt baseball team this Wednesday April 20th at PNC Park. The Mountaineers come into the game with a 22-12 record while the Lions walk in with a 21-13 record. With stats this close, the game was expected to be a thriller.

And a thriller is what it was. The game stayed 0-0 until the 3rd inning when West Virginias shortstop Tevin Tucker scored on wild pitch to make it a 1-0 game. Then in the 5th in Pitt’s Jeffrey Wehler scored off a double hit by Levins to tie the game 1-1. The very next inning the Mountaineers responded when their third baseman Leonard stole home to take the lead. Pitt didn’t give up though when Dom Popa hit a triple which allowed Josh Overbeek to score from 1st base. This tied the game and also would send it extra innings. In the top of the 11th Tevin Tucker was able to score thanks to some errors on Pitts defense. Pitt could giv eback an answer and the Mountaineers took the win.

Even though the score didn’t show it the Mountaineers had a great game. They only allowed Pitt to have 3 hits all game. Another plus was how aggressive they were on the base paths. They had a total of 10 stolen bases which helped a lot in their victory. These two teams will face off one more time this season on May 10th in Morgantown and the Mountaineers home turf, and this game is expected to be another thriller.
