Health Sciences Day

On Friday, March 18th Uniontown High school students went to Penn State Fayette to view the campus and learn about Nursing and Physical Therapist Assistant programs. The tour lasted from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. About 30 students, ranging from 9th to 12th grade, attended. The students heard from different faculty members, including a member of the Biology department about exploring other health related fields.

At the tour, they had a fake cadaver, which is a fake human body. This piece of equipment is extremely expensive and sits in high tech water so it doesn’t dry out . The cadavers had multiple different health care settings which gave experiences of all types of potential situations. They also had many different simulations, such as pregnancy, deafness, blindness, dementia, etc.

After the health program, the students were able to view the Penn State Fayette campus. The students were able to tour every building of the campus. The tour guides showed the students where the library was and where students can go and study. It was overall a great opportunity for students who wish to pursue a career in the health field.
