With the new movie The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey coming out, fantasy fans are going crazy. Here is a brief view of the movie and what a few people think of it.
The movie begins with Bilbo Baggins, who is sent on a great quest to reclaim the Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor from the vile dragon Smaug. Guided by the enchanted wizard, Grandolf the Grey, Bilbo finds himself joining thirteen dwarves led by the legend, Thorin Oakenshield. Their quest will send them into many perils; through treacherous lands swarming with creatures that one could only imagine. He must face Goblins and Orcs, and devious sorcerers of all kinds.
Although their goal lies to the East and the wastelands of the Lonely Mountain, they must escape the goblin tunnels, where Bilbo meets Gollum. Fans would recognize from The Lord of The Rings that Gollum is the enemy of Frodo Baggins, Bilbo Baggins nephew.
Alone with Gollum, on the sands of an underground lake, the unknowing Bilbo Baggins not only gains courage which was once hidden within himself, but also possession of Gollum’s “precious” ring that holds unexpected and powerful magic… A simple, gold ring that holds powers that Bilbo Baggins can’t even begin to imagine.
A couple of students were asked about their thoughts on The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.
Rachael Singower: “The movie was awesome. It was a long movie, but all the Lord of the Ring movies were long. The graphics were awesome and I loved how they did the story behind how Frodo got the ring.”
Clinton Burone: “Yeah, the movie was great but I think it would have been better if they did this movie before the original Lord of the Ring series. I liked it but I felt they could have made more money if they at least waited another 15 or so years, like they did Superman.”
Singower: “I agree, also they need to do more of J.R.R. Tolkien’s books.”
Burone: “Yeah, J.R.R. has like hundreds of books, a lot of them really good too. I would love to see more of his books made into movies.”
So whether you a J.R.R. Tolkien reader or a fantasy fanatic, this movie is overall great and should be seen by fans of all sorts.
