January 20, 2021 will be the 50th United States Inauguration day! This is the swearing in ceremony of the US President. This event marks the new U.S. Presidential term. Inaugurations takes place every four years with every new elected president . The swearing in is a way to welcome our new leader.
The first Inauguration was for President Washington on April 30, 1789 in New York City. Originally the event was held on March 4th and due to the 20th amendment it was moved to January 4th. During this ceremony the President is required to recite an oath under the Constitution. The President will place his hand on a Bible as he says the oath. The Vice President oath is different but is just as important.
The Chief Justice administers these oaths. Lady Bird Johnson began the tradition of the first lady holding the Bible the future president lays his hand on. The new president can be expected to deliver a speech about what their administrations goals are. After the speech there is a parade to celebrate the new president. Finally the day ends with a fun Inauguration Ball
