This spring, the drama club is performing Little Shop of Horrors the Musical, with freshman Claire White playing the lead role, Audrey! With much talent and experience, this young performer is bound to help put on an amazing show! With only a few weeks left until the curtains open, let’s dive into her world, and learn a little more about our lead:
Claire’s favorite class is Honors English, she enjoys reading and writing very much. In her spare time, she likes to play softball as well as her guitar and ukulele. She enjoys singing, whether it’s in church, on stage, or just in her room while learning songs to play along with. In school, Claire is a part of the softball team, cross country, Raiderettes, and obtained a lead role in this year’s musical. In the future, Miss White plans to major in Political Science at Penn State. She then wants to further her education by attending Duquesne University’s School of Law.
Claire’s Musical Journey
Miss White started being involved in musicals since the young age of eight years old. She has taken many voice, acting, and dance classes along the way. She first started with the Mon Valley Performing Arts Academy at California University. There, she performed many shows such as Dear Edwina, The Happy Elf, Honk Jr., and several others. Claire has performed at the Geyer Performing Arts Center in Scottdale where she was a part of Mamma Mia, the Hunchback of Notre Dame, and Miracle on 34th Street. She also performed in Annie at the State Theater in Uniontown. Over the past 6 years, Miss Claire White has performed in 15 musicals! Among those her favorites were James & the Giant Peach Jr., The Happy Elf, Mamma Mia, and others. Along with dancing and acting on stage, Claire also sings for Saint Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church during Sunday mass. Recently she has also been asked to sing the national anthem for the boys’ basketball game at University of Pittsburgh.
Besides being a star on the stage, Miss White enjoys cooking and baking for her family and trying new recipes, which is something many aren’t aware of.
When asked for advice for future freshman, Claire responded “I would say don’t be scared to talk to new people. You may just find a new best friend.”
Miss Claire White hopes to see everyone at the Spring Musical, Little Shop of Horrors (March 12th-14th @ 7pm), to support the Drama Club! Be sure to get tickets!
