As March Madness creeps closer, the fans are going crazy. Every year since 1939, March is a crazy month for college basketball. 64 teams compete in a bracket to see who wins the national championship that year. Fans from every team hope to see their team get in on Selection Sunday, which is March 15th. Making the bracket is a huge accomplishment for the school, since out of 347 Division 1 schools only 64 make it.
Getting a 1 seed in this bracket means you are among one of the best teams in the nation. Two teams have already been selected for that 1 seed: Baylor and Kansas. There are still two 1 seeds left, bracket analysts project that Gonzaga and San Diego St. will get them. Gonzaga so far this year is 25-1 and being led by Sophomore Filip Petrusev who is averaging 17.2 pts, 7.9 reb, and shooting 57%. San Diego St. so far is 25-0 and being led by Junior Malachi Flynn who is averaging 16.4 pts, 5.1 asts, and shooting 44%.
The perfect bracket is always a goal of many people. The prize for a perfect bracket is $1 million every year for life or $100,000 for the best bracket. In the history of the bracket no one has had a perfect one. A man named Gregg Nigl was the closest one with correctly predicting the outcome of 48 games that had been played. The odds for a perfect bracket are up for debate, some say its 1 in 9.2
quintillion. No one has accomplished this yet, but it doesn’t hurt to at least try, so make sure to fill out your brackets when it comes time!
