Penguins in the Playoffs

After a hard fought season by our Pittsburg Penguins, they finished up with the number three seed in the Metropolitan Division. They’re record was 46-25-11 with a 5-3 win over the Blue Jackets in Friday’s regular season finale. They ended up matching up with the Rangers in the first round of the playoffs. The first game was Tuesday, May 3 in the PPG Paints Arena.

The game started off even as both teams got a feel for the game. Then, it started to become more physical as the game moved on. After both teams scored three goals each, they were tied at the end of regulation and it led into overtime. The Rangers outshot the Penguins 12-9 in the first extra period. Guentzel had a close shot on the goal but missed and hit a crossbar behind Sherkerkin.

In second overtime, the Rangers built a 19-17 advantage on shots. DeSmith left the ice about midway through this period, and was replaced by Domingue who had 14 saves in the period. Finally, the game went into triple overtime when Malkin was positioned in front of the net when he tipped a long shot by John Marino over the Rangers goalie. Penguins ended up winning the game 4-3 after three extra periods of play.
