Pittsburgh Pirates Home Opener

The Pirates opened their season this year in St. Louis in a four game series however one was postponed due to weather. The team went 1-2 in that series loosing the first game 9-0, loosing the second game 6-2, but then sprung back to win the third game 9-4. The team was hoping to bounce back from their losses in their home opener April 12th against the Chicago Cubs.

The Pirates started Jose Quintana on the mound with a great lineup behind him. The Cubs started Drew Smyly and their lineup was looking great. Nobody had scored going all the way to the 5th inning. Then in the top of the 5th the Cubs new player Seiya Suzuki hit a solo homerun to make it a 1-0 game. Then again in the 7th inning Seiya Suzuki hit another solo homerun to make the score 2-0. The Pirates got a flash of hope when Bryan Reynolds hit a solo homer in the 8th inning to make the score 2-1. However this was not enough as the Pirates would take their 3rd loss of the season.

The Pirates aren’t off to a great start this year, and many people believe this will continue. The team hasn’t won a championship since 1979 and haven’t even won their division since 1993. The Pirates haven’t looked good for a long time and fans don’t think it is going to change anytime soon. Although the team isn’t the best its still always fun to watch a baseball game. The Pirates still have a long season ahead and anything is possible. Maybe this could be the year the Pirates turn things around.
