Preparing for College

Thinking about college can be stressful, especially if nobody is around to help guide you. People make many mistakes early on in their high school career that could have been beneficial to them. The road to college begins your freshman year of high school.

As a freshman you need to focus mainly on maintaining good grades. Join clubs or participate in a sport. This looks great on college applications. Try new things. Become a well rounded person. And maintain being active in extracurricular activities. Sophomore year you need to start preparing for the SAT. The high school offers sign-ups for the PSAT. This will prepare you for the real test.

Junior year is when you need to take the another PSAT. These are great practices for the real test. Take the SAT in the spring. During your junior year you also need to start looking for colleges you would like to attend. Plan to visit the colleges over the summer. Visits are a great way to see if you truly are compatible with the college.

Take a math class to stay fresh on math skills. You may be surprised by how much you can forget after a full year of not having a math class. Try your best to be in AP classes. Listen to when college representatives come to the school. They often offer an application fee waver. Apply for the FAFSA. This is free federal student aid.
