What was the title of your project?

MS Calendar Party Fundraiser

Please explain what you did for your project?

I held a calendar party at St. John Byzantine’s Social Hall on August 28th, 2011. There was a Chinese auction, 50/50 tickets, a basket raffle, and a separate ticket for a flat screen T.V. There were a total of 250 people. 15 tables that held guests (12 for each month plus 3 specialty tables). I raised a total of 6,187.47 dollars, which benefited the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. I decided to do this because my mom was diagnosed with this disease 18 years ago. With the help of my family, friends, teachers and members of the community, I was able to accomplish my goal.

What did you learn from this experience?

Even if one person starts a huge project, it doesn’t mean that it is impossible; it just means that you have to put in a little extra effort. With everyone’s help, it makes things a lot easier.

What is your advice to underclassmen regarding their project?

To pick a project that you would really love to do and when you do it, put your whole heart into it. You will feel a lot better about yourself and your accomplishments.

What are your plans after graduation?

I plan to attend either Carnegie Mellon University or Penn State Main Honors college and to become a mechanical engineer on an electrical engineer.
