On January 26, 2022 Uniontown hosted Laurel Highlands for the boys basketball game. The two schools have been rivals for years. The game was held to a sold out crowd and tickets were a hot commodity. Everyone immediately noticed number #2, junior point guard, Rodney Gallagher.
Rodney started playing sports at a young age. He plays both football and basketball. As he got older, he continued to get better. When he was in the eighth grade, he played basketball with Lebron James son Bronny James. They played on a team called the North Coast Blue Chips. This experience helped Rodney get noticed as an amazing talent. He and Bronny became close friends and keep in touch through social media.
In high school, he became a two-sport standout. As a freshman, he made first-team all-state in basketball. As a sophomore, he averaged 19.4 pts and 5 rebounds per game. In football throughout high school, he played multiple spots both ways including quarterback, wide receiver and safety. Rodney will be a senior next year and has already received 13 offers from colleges for either football and/or basketball. A few months ago he announced that he has chosen to play football when he goes to college. He has not picked a school yet but wherever he goes, I’m sure he will continue to to do great things and maybe have a chance to play in the NFL.
