Teacher of the Week: Señora Buchanan

What do you teach and how long have you been at UHS?

“I teach Spanish one, two, and three. This is my 15th year here at UHS.”

What do you enjoy about teaching at UHS?

“I love the light bulb moments when the students realize they actually understood part of a real Spanish conversation.”

Where did you attend college and where else have you worked?

“I graduated from California University of PA with my Bachelor of Science in Spanish. Before coming here, I had long term substitute positions at Laurel Highlands High School and Albert Gallatin High School. I also teach ballet at Tricia Ricco Dance Studio in Carmichaels.”

What are your reactions to the renovation?

“I love the open staircase by the office and the air conditioning is wonderful!”

Do you have any advice for UHS students?

“Do your best in all of your classes. You never know where life will take you and what skills you will need to have with you.”

What do you like to do in your spare time?

” What spare time, I have a two year old.”
