Student Issues: Depression

Who has depression that you know of? I personally believe that I have depression, in fact I believe that everyone has depression somewhere inside of them. What is depression? Depression is a mental health disorder, characterized by persistently depressed mood or loss of interest in activities causing significant impairment in daily life.

Where does depression stem from? One reason could be abuse. It could be physical, sexual, or emotional abuse. Everyone has different trauma that they experienced. When does depression develop? The highest rate starts at, ages 18-29.

This topic is interesting because, many teens my age, suffer from it. Here’s one of my favorite quotes about depression… ” It’s so difficult to describe depression to someone who’s never been there, because its not sadness. I know sadness. Sadness is to cry and feel. Why does depression occur? There are many different reasons why one being, long-term unemployment another reason being genetics. How does depression take over your life? Depression can be irritable, examples are weight gain and hypersomnia.

As of today, (1/3/21) I found out that my dad, and my grandma on my dads side both, struggled from depression. And I believe they had to take medication for it. I personally don’t believe in medication when it comes to mental health.

An estimated 17.3 million adults in the United States had at least one major depressive episode.

The most important thing to remember is that you are not alone.
