Today’s New Depression

With the coronavirus still in full swing a lot of people especially teenagers have faced severe depression and anxiety during quarantine. We are so focused on saving people from dying from the virus physically that we don’t pay attention how everything is killing us mentally as as well.

According to nature news, “More than 42% of people surveyed by the US Census Bureau in December reported symptoms of anxiety or depression in December, an increase from 11% the previous year.” This past year in 2020 everyone felt isolated and alone in their homes, not having the comfort of other people because we couldn’t see anyone or go anywhere. This made people feel very lonely and misunderstood. And those who did have other family or significant other living with them, have gotten frustrated and upset with each other causing a crack in the relationship.

There is no doubt about it that the pandemic has really affected everyone’s life although some more than others. And I believe that in the future we should better prepare for things like this so people mental health doesn’t worsen. After all mental health is just as important as physical isn’t it.
