Tomahawk Tips: Stress Relief


You hear about it all the time. Your parents always say they are stressed. Your teachers are in a bad mood? Your a kid there is no reason for you to be stressed, they say. Lies, it’s shown that teens have a lot of stress in their lives. You have pressure from you peers and adults. The stress of passing your classes, getting into a good college, balancing school, home, and social life. Here are some tips to cut down stress and relax!

Music – Listening to music decreases the levels of adrenalin and increases those of serotonin. Listening to classical music does not help everyone. Whatever music you enjoy is what you should listen to because it soothes you. When you are in a positive state of mind, you are not taken over by the pressures of tension, stresses and anxieties of life. You are able to take somewhat able view of the situation with less dramatic emotion, which otherwise would not have been possible.

Humor – What can a good laugh not cure? Laughing brings down your stress levels and relaxes your mind. A good laugh decreases levels of stress hormones like cosrtisol and adrenal,and causes endorphin levels to rise and strengthens our immune system. It increase the oxygen intake helping the functions of organs such as the heart and lungs. Laughter is also know to ease pain. So relax and laugh.

Exercise – It releases pent up frustrations, relaxes your muscles, releases ‘endorphins’ –also know as the ‘feel good’ hormones. It also deceases stress hormones, and helps you sleep better. It is good for your physical and mental health. If you are stressed go for a run or a dance video work out thing. Release some stress and burn the calories!

There are other ways to cut down on stress. If your plate is to full, put some things on hold. It is okay to take a break in your schedule. So release your stress. Drink tea, listen to music, dance today and every other day, and laugh!
