UHS Cheer Tryouts

On March 26, 2022, Uniontown High School held their cheerleading tryouts. Tryouts were held by the California University cheerleaders. The Cal U cheerleaders have taken over teaching the material and scoring for 8 years; and for 3 years, the head coach, Kyle, has been assisting also. At tryouts, the participants are required to learn a cheer, chant, and a part of a routine. The future team members are given an hour and a half to learn and perfect the material to prepare themselves for tryouts.

Over the past couple years, there has been a dramatic drop in participation in the team. The coaches, Ella Sepesy and Christina Hebda, were struggling to find girls to be an active cheerleader for their school. Last year, the team started the season with a total of 14 cheerleaders. This year, there were a total of 31 girls who showed up to tryouts. With the desire to have a bigger team, Ella and Christina decided to accept 25 girls; 10 girls on junior varsity and 15 on varsity.

Congratulations to all the new members of the UHS cheer squad! Let’s hope for a good season!
