Uniontown Football Joining Independent League

The Uniontown football team has had its struggles over the years. It has definitely been a while since we’ve been successful. The Uniontown school board recently announced that football has officially left the WPIAL to join the independent league. Albert Gallatin did this two years ago and it turned out well. We are hopeful that we can get back to a winning record, however, it may take some time for that to happen.

Uniontown has had consecutive losing seasons. We’ve played top teams like Thomas Jefferson, Belle Vernon, North Catholic, Derry Area, and Elizabeth Forward. We won’t be playing those teams anymore since we’ll have an independent schedule. Instead we’ll be playing teams down the road in West Virginia and a couple teams here in PA. Albert Gallatin did this and the first year they went 5-3 and then the next year they went 6-1. Hopefully this can turn out well for the program and create a good spark.

Hopefully this year the season will start on time. The 2020 season was a mess due to the Coronavirus outbreak and there were only two games. There is a virtual meeting on February 24th at 10:30 for anyone interested in playing football next school year. For students who are remote, they will be able to attend through Zoom, the link will be on the Booster Facebook page and on the UHS athletic Web Page. Let’s hope this year that Uniontown Football can get things going in the right direction.
